Africa Fest to be held at Freedom Park on Thursday 31 May 2018
Freedom Park was established to serve as a symbol of national identity, establish mechanisms to promote, protect and preserve Indigenous Knowledge Systems, advocate issues of Reconcilliation, Nation building and Social cohesion. Mobilize institutions through active partnerships with local, national continental and international institutions to. Emancipate the African Voice.
Under the theme “Celebrating Our Cultures”, Freedom Park, SABC’s Ikwekwezi fm Radio Station, African Embassies, Brand South Africa, SADC, African Diaspora Forum, Foreal Fashion House, will celebrate Africa month on 31 May 2018 at Freedom Park, Pretoria. Embassies will showcase their African uniqueness through a display of their country’s history, food cuisine, indigenous art, culture, fashion, tourism and dance. A throng of individual traders of African artefacts from, Kenya, Angola, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Senegal Ghana, Swaziland, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Nigeria etc. will showcase and trade their products.
The aim of this Africa fest, is to instil pride, love and unity amongst people of the continent as well as to inculcate the spirit of Ubuntu and interdependency of countries in the continent. Furthermore, the event aims to provide a platform for sharing on matters relating to tourism, cultural diversity and economic opportunities that exist in the continent.
The objective of the event is largely to celebrate being African, hence the name” Africa Fest” and contributing to building a peaceful continent, exposing the economic prospects and the potential that exist in various countries of the continent as well as to learn and support one another’s initiatives.
A key note address on the topic “The year of Nelson Mandela, building better Africa and a better world: protecting our heritage knowledge sites” will be delivered by Advocate Sipho Mantula, a Researcher at UNISA. A fashion show on African garments will be coordinated and presented to the guests by Foreal Fashion house. DJ’s, traditional dancers and music will entertain guests.
