HONOURING THE SPIRIT OF YOUTH ON 16 JUNE AT FREEDOM PARK

Honouring the Spirit of Youth on 16 June at Freedom Park

On Monday, 16 June 2025, Freedom Park will mark Youth Day with an Open Day dedicated to
honouring the legacy of the young people who stood against injustice in 1976, and to recognising the
voices and contributions of today’s youth.

From 08:30 to 16:00, the Park will open to the public, with free entry for youth, in a spirit of reflection,
remembrance, and renewal. This day offers an opportunity for visitors to engage meaningfully with
the history and heritage that shaped South Africa’s path to democracy.

The day’s focus will be on providing a space to reflect on the courage, resistance, and sacrifices of
the 1976 generation, while also acknowledging the determination and resilience of young people who
continue to shape the nation’s future.
Visitors will be able to:

  • Walk through the Monumental Elements, where the names and memories of those who contributed to our liberation are honoured.
  • Visit the //hapo Museum, where South Africa’s story is told through powerful narratives and immersive exhibitions.
  • Experience the symbolic and natural beauty of the site, which invites contemplation and connection with the country’s diverse and complex history.

As we commemorate this important day, Freedom Park reaffirms its commitment to preserving
memory, promoting national healing, and supporting the ongoing role of youth in building a just and
inclusive society.

Let this Youth Day be a moment to remember the past, engage with the present, and imagine a future
shaped by the ideals of justice, freedom, and unity.
