Freedom Park and other stakeholders will host an Annual Reconcilliation Peace Walk, in memory of the late first democratically elected president Mr Nelson Mandela, who envisioned Freedom Park, a National Heritage Site, and was its Patron- in -Chief. This year’s Reconcilliation Peace Walk will focus on one of Mandela’s teachings “minds that seeks revenge destroy states, while those that seeks reconciliation build Nations.”
The primary mandate of Freedom Park is to honour the heroes and heroines of the struggle for freedom and humanity, with objectives being to foster issues of Reconcilliation, Nation Building History and Culture. It is not surprising therefore, that since 2014, Freedom Park, has adopted the Mandela Reconciliation Peace Walk as one of its signature activities. The walk is also a culmination of a plethora of events that have been taking place since the beginning of the year, to celebrate 20 years of Freedom Park anniversary. Since 2014, the walk has grown from strength to strength.
On this 7th anniversary, of the passing of this heroic stalwart, Freedom Park will continue to pay tribute to the life, his legacy and the contribution this world icon has made to mankind. The walk will start at Freedom Park Amphitheatre. Expected to attend are the local community members, health and sports club members.
