Let the Guns Be Silenced and the Drums Roll: Africa Unites for Peace
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – Registry.Africa, in partnership with Freedom Park and in
alignment with the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063, is proud to announce the 2026 edition
of the “Silencing the Guns – Let the Drums Roll” campaign. Launching at 08:00 AM (SAST)
on Africa Day, 25 May 2026, this landmark event serves as a continental call to action to
eradicate conflict, celebrate a unified identity, and advance a culture of peace across all 55
African Union member states.
The Event: A Symphony of Peace The 2026 event will transform Freedom Park into a
sanctuary of unity, combining spiritual reflection, high-level dialogue, and cultural expression.
Key activities include:
- Interfaith Prayers: A collective moment of reflection invoking hope for a future free from violence.
- Pan-African Drumming: A drumming performance symbolizing the “heartbeat of Africa.”
Highlighting the day’s cultural proceedings, the event will feature a headline performance by
the renowned percussionist and cultural scholar, Dr. Sello Galane. Known for his deep
mastery of storytelling, Dr. Galane will lead a mass drumming session designed to unify the
continent in a single, powerful rhythm, bridging traditional heritage with the modern aspiration
for peace.
The initiative is deeply rooted in the African Union’s Agenda 2063, specifically the flagship
project to “Silence the Guns in Africa.” By aligning with the AU’s Master Roadmap, Registry
Africa and Freedom Park aim to promote a culture of peace and good governance. The
campaign is officially recognized as a critical platform for mobilizing African citizens to take
ownership of the continent’s security and developmental agenda.
Registry Africa continues to provide the technological backbone for this movement via the
www.silencingtheguns.africa portal. This digital hub allows Africans in the diaspora and across
the continent to participate virtually by uploading their own drumming videos, creating a global
“digital soundscape” of solidarity.
