Freedom Park and the Olof Palmer Institute will today 21 February 2024 unveil the name of His Excellency, General Pierre Oba, on Freedom Parks Wall of Names, wherein the names of 185 000 liberation heroes and heroines who contributed to the liberation of South Africa are inscribed. The event will culminate in a book launch, written by the Miniter of State in Congo Brazzaville, His Excellency Major General Pierre Antoine Ndinga Oba. The book is titled: The Brazzaville Protocol.
Freedom Park CEO Dr Jane Mufamadi will deliver a welcome address. Pierre Moussa, Secretary General of the Congolese Labour Party will deliver a keynote address, Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, honorable Nocawe Noncedo Mafu will respond to the keynote address. Major General Pierre Oba the Minister of State, Ministry of Mining Industries and Geology in the Republic of Congo and the book author, is also expected to speak. The Dean of the African Heads of Diplomatic Missions, His Excellency Ambassador Andre Nzapayeke, shall deliver the message of support. Founder of Olof Palmer Peace Institute and the Initiator of the Project Dr Mukanda Mabonso Mulemfo is also expected to speak.
Freedom Park is cultural institution that encapsulates a museum and memorial space dedicated to chronicling and honouring the heroes of diverse national and international communities. Amongst others, Freedom Park ‘s mandate is to honour countries that contributed to the liberation struggle by telling South Africa’s untold stories through memorialisation, on the Wall of Names and commemorative events and exhibitions.
Freedom Park salutes, the prolific and courageous role played by His Excellency Mr Denis Sassou-N’Guesso, President of the Republic of Congo and Head of State, through his unwavering support and international solidarity in brokering peace and ending colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa, through the signing of the Brazzaville Protocol by Angola, Cuba, and South Africa, in Brazzaville on 13 December 1988.
