Freedom Park’s 13th Ungasali Storytelling Festival returns with a powerful live performance experience that brings storytelling into conversation with the future.
Guided by the theme Echoes of Tomorrow: Stories Shaping the Future, the festival showcases theatrical storytelling, spoken word, poetry and music, performed by storytellers, poets and musicians who use voice, rhythm and movement to share African narratives in dynamic and engaging ways.
Ungasali places storytelling on stage — not only as spoken word, but as a full-bodied performance experience where sound, gesture and music deepen meaning. The festival reflects on how stories carry memory, challenge the present and influence the futures we imagine.
Hosted at the South African State Theatre, the Opera Theatre provides an intimate and powerful setting for these performances, creating space for audiences to listen, reflect and connect.
