Celebrate Women’s Day at Freedom Park with Free Entry for Women
This Women’s Day, Freedom Park invites women to spend Sunday, 9 August 2026, discovering,
reflecting and connecting with South Africa’s heritage, with free entry for all women.
Women’s Day is an opportunity to remember the courage, resilience and leadership of the women
who helped shape South Africa’s journey to freedom and democracy. At Freedom Park, visitors can
connect with these stories while experiencing the heritage, history and natural beauty of the site.
Visitors can explore Freedom Park’s heritage spaces and exhibitions, discover stories of South
Africa’s past, and take in the beautiful landscapes and views across the site. The reflection areas
also offer a space to pause, reflect, and connect with the significance of the stories preserved at
Freedom Park.
For those looking to make a day of their visit, guests can also enjoy a meal at Dandozest, Freedom
Park’s in-house restaurant, making the day an opportunity to combine heritage, reflection and
leisure.
A day to honour her legacy
The 9th of August holds a special place in South Africa’s history. On this day in 1956, more than
20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the discriminatory pass
laws. Their courage and unity became a defining moment in the country’s liberation history.
The legacy of these women continues to inspire generations and reminds us of the important role
women have played in shaping our nation.
This Women’s Day, Freedom Park invites women to experience the site, connect with our shared
heritage and take a moment to reflect on the women whose stories continue to shape our
understanding of South Africa.
