For Immediate Release
Date: 3 December 2024

Freedom Park today reaffirmed its commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society by hosting a meaningful event celebrating differently abled individuals. This gathering, which brought together learners with diverse abilities, their families, and key stakeholders, served as a platform to honour their contributions, resilience, and achievements while addressing the challenges they continue to face.

In her opening address, Freedom Park CEO, Dr Jane Mufamadi, emphasized the institution’s dedication to social cohesion and nation-building. “Freedom Park is a place of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of South Africa’s rich history and spirit. Today’s event is a powerful step toward fostering inclusion and empowering differently abled individuals to shape a brighter future,” she said.

The program, held in collaboration with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Education, included motivational talks, peer support initiatives, life skills development, and family support sessions. These activities were designed to uplift and empower participants, reinforcing the belief that a strong sense of self-worth and a supportive community are key to thriving in society.

“Our constitution guarantees the rights of differently abled individuals, yet barriers to accessibility and inclusion persist,” Dr Mufamadi noted. “Events like these remind us of the strides we have made while highlighting the work still ahead. Every person’s journey adds value to our collective South African identity, and we are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.”

Freedom Park extended gratitude to its partners for their support in creating an event that fosters growth, celebrates capabilities, and strengthens community connections.

As part of its mission to build a society that embraces diversity and inclusion, Freedom Park continues to create platforms that amplify underrepresented voices and bridge divides. This event serves as a reminder of the transformative power of collaboration and the importance of celebrating the rich diversity within our nation.
